Bolt-On Spoiler Installation General Guide 

Important Information

This guide is intended as a general installation guide for bolt-on spoilers. Professional installation is recommended. Ensure the spoiler is suitable for your vehicle before beginning installation.

Tools Required

  • Tape measure or ruler
  • Masking tape
  • Marker or pencil
  • Drill
  • Suitable drill bits
  • Rust protection / primer (if required)
  • Automotive seam sealer or polyurethane sealant
  • Socket set or spanners
  • Cleaning cloth


Step 1 – Position the Spoiler

Place the spoiler onto the boot lid in the desired position.

Using a tape measure, measure the distance between each end of the spoiler and the edge of the boot lid.

Adjust the spoiler until the measurements are equal on both sides. This ensures the spoiler is perfectly centralised before marking any holes.

It is recommended to measure several times from multiple reference points to confirm the spoiler is square and centred.


Step 2 – Mark the Mounting Holes

Once you are satisfied with the spoiler’s position:

  • Hold the spoiler securely in place.
  • Mark each mounting hole onto the boot lid using a marker or centre punch.
  • Remove the spoiler.
  • Double-check that all marked holes are symmetrical and correctly positioned before proceeding.

Taking extra time at this stage can help avoid unnecessary corrections later.


Step 3 – Drill the Mounting Holes

Before drilling:

  • Confirm there are no components, wiring or obstructions beneath the drilling locations.
  • Protect the surrounding paintwork with masking tape if desired.

Carefully drill each marked hole using a suitable drill bit for the supplied hardware.

After drilling:

  • Remove any metal swarf.
  • Deburr the edges of each hole.
  • Apply suitable rust protection or primer to any exposed bare metal.
  • If the vehicle has any unused factory holes or holes from a previous spoiler installation or modification, these should also be treated and protected against corrosion before being sealed.


Step 4 – Install the Spoiler

Position the spoiler over the drilled holes.

Insert the supplied bolts and loosely install all fixings before fully tightening them.

Once all bolts are in place:

  • Check the spoiler remains centred.
  • Tighten each fixing evenly.
  • Do not overtighten, as excessive force may damage the spoiler or vehicle.


Step 5 – Seal the Installation

To help prevent water ingress and future corrosion:

  • Apply a suitable automotive seam sealer or polyurethane sealant around each mounting hole and bolt.
  • Ensure all mounting holes are fully sealed.
  • Any unused factory holes or holes from previous modifications should also be completely sealed to prevent moisture entering the panel.
  • Wipe away any excess sealant for a neat finish.

Proper sealing is essential to help protect the vehicle from water ingress and corrosion.

 

Final Checks

Before using the vehicle:

  • Confirm all bolts are securely tightened.
  • Ensure the spoiler is level and centrally positioned.
  • Check the boot opens and closes correctly.
  • Inspect the installation after the first few journeys and recheck the tightness of all fixings if necessary.
