034Motorsport's engineers invested significant effort in developing and testing to create the most comprehensive and effective catch can kit for the 2.0T EA888 Gen 4 motor.
Why is the OE PCV System Insufficient?
While the EA888.4 PCV system is a step up from the EA888.3, this current generation system is still largely based on the previous generation’s design with some improvements. The new PCV features a revised diaphragm and check valve system to help regulate crankcase pressures better and an improved oil separator with a new internal baffle to reduce the amount of oil vapor that could be recirculated into the intake manifold. Despite these improvements, we still see oil and water vapors entering the intake tract in our long-term extreme testing. These contaminants pool in various components of the intake tract and get sucked into the engine, producing carbon build-up on the intake valves and leading to oil consumption. This issue is exacerbated when pushing beyond stock power levels.
What’s the fix?
Utilizing our years of experience in Motorsport Racing, 034Motorsport engineers designed a Catch Can Kit that intercepts these oil vapors before entering the turbo inlet in an intricate baffle that allows the engine to continue ingesting the excess crankcase pressure but traps unwanted oil and water vapors. Once collected by the 034Motorsport Catch Can, this excess fluid can drain into the oil pan with the integrated drain line, similar to the operation of the factory PCV Air Oil Separator. This decreases oil in your intake tract and reduces carbon buildup on intake valves, resulting in a cleaner combustion process. In addition to maintaining a cleaner combustion process, our kit integrates with the factory EA888.4 Venturi system to help maintain optimal crankcase pressures. This factory system is a huge step up over previous generations of the EA888 as it significantly improves the PCV’s overall effectiveness by allowing for consistent evacuation of crankcase gases.
