"Form follows function" - based on this principle, engineers and designers consistently arrange aerodynamic components for BMW vehicles.
AC Schnitzer aerodynamic components take up the lines of the respective base vehicle, subtly enhance them, and give the body exciting new contours.
At the same time, they deliver real performance: they increase downforce on the front and/or rear axle, thus ensuring additional grip.
Material: Carbon - Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic
Only high-quality composite materials are used in the production of AC Schnitzer aerodynamic components, as only these materials meet our high quality standards.
Carbon fibre reinforced plastic commonly known as carbon offers unique quality, being ultra-light while extremely rigid. These characteristics explain why this material is indispensable in motorsport and aerospace engineering.
The production of this fibre is, however, very complex. Fibers are spun into thick threads, known as rovings. These threads are woven into textile-like fibre mats and then impregnated with different resins in a further step.
From this point, the material becomes extremely sensitive. Even minor stretching leads to irreparable distortion of the texture and renders the product unusable. Only through careful manual craftsmanship can this highly sensitive fabric be shaped into complex forms. Such a process requires a great deal of experience and precision.
After curing in an autoclave, the surface is painted. Due to the woven structure with many recesses, this is an extremely demanding process. Ultimately, the flawless surface reflects one thing above all: perfection down to the deepest fibre.
Creative Design
Whether PUR, ASA, or Carbon, all AC Schnitzer design concepts come from a true Italian artist: Michele Viandante, who has been the Head Designer at AC Schnitzer for many years. Naturally, his designs are not only aesthetically pleasing; they must also perform. For example, many components undergo wind tunnel testing to verify their functionality.
Tests
If the calculations match the results, further testing takes place. Crash tests with dummies assess compliance with safety standards, such as pedestrian protection. Only once all tests are successfully completed do AC Schnitzer aerodynamic components enter worldwide distribution.
