The K&N NEXTGEN Air Intake Kit is a direct replacement for the standard airbox and intake pipework on the Audi RS3 (8Y) with the 2.5 TFSI five-cylinder engine. It is designed to let the engine draw in more cool, fresh air, which helps it make slightly more power and gives it a deeper, more purposeful intake sound.
What it does
The standard intake is built with noise, cost and packaging in mind, so it can restrict airflow. This K&N kit swaps it for a larger, smoother intake tube, an enclosed airbox and a high-flow oiled cotton filter. Air reaches the engine more easily, and the enclosed airbox helps keep hot engine bay air away from the filter.
K&N quotes an estimated gain of 11 hp and 8.5 lb-ft of torque, with no ECU tune required. These are modest, real-world figures for an intake-only upgrade. You should notice a sharper intake sound and slightly crisper throttle response, but it will not transform the car on its own. It also works well as a first step before further upgrades such as an exhaust or a tune.
